Learning English: Just a click away!

Technology has payed an important role in almost every aspect of human development, especially the internet. What used to be hard to have access to, now it’s just a click away!

A good example of the benefits of the internet and technology, is how people use it to learn English. Some people use the internet to learn grammar and even others use it to chat with native speakers! Could you imagine that happening twenty years ago?

Many language learners use this app Duolingo to start learning English and other languages while they have fun. Those who want to improve particularly their pronunciation, watch Youtube channels such as Billie English’s, which we personally recommend for more advanced learners.

In conclusion, technology has totally made an impact on language learning. For us, technology and the internet have helped us a lot to improve our pronunciation. What about you, guys? Would you use it to learn English?

Writing an essay.

Home workshop week 15: “Digital learning workshop: my personal reflections”

Another semester has just passed and so has the end of the digital learning workshop too. I want to talk about my experience in this workshop.

First, I want to start by saying that nowadays technologies and AI have made an abrupt change in our world, changing the way we access information and the way we learn and teach. Having these things in mind, as future teachers we must have an open mind and find ways to use it wisely, because not only teachers are using it but also students, so we have to keep updated.

At the start of this workshop, I had a slight perception of what AI could do in educational environments, for example when we had that workshop with Teacher Jessie and she talked about many things regarding AI and education, I remember when she talked about AI´s that can be used for planning classes or learning about historical figures talking to an AI chatbot, I honestly was very impressed since what I had on mind about AI was merely most about entertainment purposes. So having this more “pedagogical” perception changed my mind on what are the uses of AI´s.

This also makes me reflect on the ethical use we must take into account while we are learning and eventually teaching. While there are many benefits that AI can provide, there are also many drawbacks that are important to have in mind. Overreliance, for example, as it is easier and tempting to use AI to do the homework for us, we must actually learn what we are studying.

Overall, this course has given me digital tools that I hadn´t have heard of before but also has allowed me to reflect and think about the pros and cons of AI and its importance since we are living in a digital era.

Is the future of education in AI?

My Language 4 Self-assessment 2024

Hello reader,

It’s been a little while since I wrote here. This time I will be talking about how my semester has been so far. Let me tell you that this semester has felt so much shorter than the previous one, the time flies when you are too busy, they say, and I think that is right. We have all been very exhausted lately because of the uni-load, but surprisingly I think I have managed to just survive or somehow I just feel that I still can bear what is coming.

Okay, let’s talk about what is really important, FEEDBACK, yes capital feedback, well our teacher specifically told us to talk about this so here I go: This semester like all the previous ones, we had to make and receive feedback, from English 2 and 6 students. I think I´m just over with the part of giving feedback, honestly, I haven’t struggled with that ever since I realized that is a very important part of my job in the future. Now receiving feedback has been an interesting experience. I personally like it because that way I´m also learning new strategies to give feedback, sort of like a symbiotic relationship.

Now as for goals and/or expectations, I think I always think the same and that is to succeed academically not only in the sense of grade but in the sense of really learning new things and not only about English but also pedagogical learning.

Finally I wanted to talk about my challenges, because who wants to talk about that, right?

But they are always the same too, attendance and motivation. Idk I think that throughout my whole life I have struggled with motivation (:c) but I think that lately I have done an excellent effort in just getting out of bed and putting on my best mood to succeed every day.

Well I think I have really told everything I wanted to put here, so see you next time dear reader. Bye.

Home workshop week 11 : applying the TPACK model

Original activity: In the original activity, we were given a part of a script of a play and we were asked to read and record it and then send via email to our teacher with the right intonation and pronunciation and also with sound effects incorporated. (Radioplay).

Activity: Radioplay Performance (TPACK model)

1. Content Knowledge (CK):

  • Objective: Improve pronunciation, intonation, and listening comprehension by performing a script.
  • Subject Matter: Focus on practicing elements like stress patterns, rhythm, and pronunciation specific to English phonology.

2. Pedagogical Knowledge (PK):

  • Teaching Strategy:
    • Use task-based learning where students engage in real-world communication (performing a radioplay) to develop their language skills.
    • Incorporate peer assessment to encourage collaborative feedback on intonation, pronunciation, and performance.

3. Technological Knowledge (TK):

  • Tools Used:
    • Audio recording software (e.g., Audacity, GarageBand) for recording the radioplay.
    • Email or learning platforms (e.g., Google Classroom) for submission.
    • Sound effect libraries to enhance the recording with suitable background effects.
    • Use a video tutorial on how to use the software, so students can learn to record, edit, and enhance their performance.
